Μεγάλο μέρος της ελληνικής ιστορίας έχει εξελιχθεί στη Στερεά Ελλάδα. Αρχαία τείχη, ακροπόλεις, ναοί, πύργοι, κάστρα, αποσ-τραγγιστικά έργα, υδρα-γωγεία, θέατρα, τάφοι, μνη-μεία, οικισμοί και πόλεις είναι παντoύ διάσπαρτα από-δεικνύοντας στις νεότερες γενιές τον αγώνα του ανθρώπου για επιβίωση στον τόπο αυτό.

Η Στερεά κατοικείται από την εποχή του λίθου, όπως δείχνουν τα ευρήματα στην Αλίαρτο, στη Χαλκίδα, στα Ψαχνά κ.α.

Πρωτοελλαδικές πόλεις φαίνεται πως υπήρχαν στο Λευκαντί και το Μάνικα όπως και στην πελασγική Αμάρυνθο κ.α.

A great part of Greek history has unfolded in Central Greece. Ancient walls, citadels, temples, castles, drainage ditches, aqueducts, theatres, tombs, monuments, settlements and cities are found everywhere.

Central Greece has been inhabited since the Stone Age, (there are many findings). Avlida (next to Chalkida) was the place where the expedition for the siege of Troy was launched.

Central Greece was the focal point due to the Delphi Oracle and the amphictyony of Delphi during the classical era of ancient Greece.
A great number of monuments dating from the Roman and later the Byzantine empire attract thousands of pilgrims and tourists.

The majority of the castles found in almost every town of Central Greece date back to the era of the Frankish occupation.

As the Ottoman Empire prevailed, central Greece became the base of operations for the fighters of the Greek resistance and revolution.
Here was the base of free Greece and the mountain government during the years of the German occupation and the resistance.

Historic battles and war operations that took place here have been recorded as landmarks in Greek History.
